An opportunity for an experienced Environmental Manager to work on a fixed term contract of 7 months to cover maternity leave for this group of companies, operating in the environmental, waste and logistics sectors. The ideal person for the position will have worked as an Environmental Manager in a waste management and recycling company.
The role will entail a very hands-on approach to maintaining Environmental policies throughout the group; writing policies and procedures and rolling out their implementation.
The company has sites all over the South West, so there will be an element of travel involved, however your office base will be in Bristol.
Skills and experience required:
· IOSH membership preferred
· NEBOSH certificate preferred
· Degree qualified (BSc) in an Environmental or Health and Safety discipline
· A background in the waste management or environmental sector essential
· Ideally you will have experience of implementing and / or maintaining quality systems such as ISO 9001
· You will need a driving license for this position
Waste Acceptance and Contaminated Land
Experience in Contaminated Land Assessment
Good knowledge and understanding of WM2 guidance for contaminated waste soil classification.
Ability to provide SWMP advice to clients and follow through with information and data.
Ensure all waste acceptance procedures are adhered to by all company personnel.
Environmental Compliance
Overall responsibility for Environmental compliance on all sites operated by the Company.
Experience of Waste Management Licences, Permits and Exemptions is essential.
Carry out weekly environmental audits and submission of quarterly returns.
Registration of client and company hazardous waste.
Maintain Environmental Work Instructions.
Maintain and monitor company recycling rates and KPI’s.
Quality Compliance
Carry out aggregate and soil sampling and submission to testing laboratories.
Ability to interpret results in compliance with the Highways Specification Series 600 and British Standard 3882.
Health and Safety Knowledge and Understanding
Responsible for daily health and safety co-ordination on all sites including PPE ordering and monitoring supplies.
Carry out weekly and quarterly health and safety audits.
Ability to carry out and review risk assessments and method statements.
Conduct inductions and training where required.
Planning Permission and Prospective Sites
Attend site meetings with potential clients and the Managing Director for the procurement of new sites.
Liaise with Local Planning Authority, Planning Consultancies and engineers on existing and prospective sites.
Provide client feedback on planning status.
Provide quotations/submit tenders for prospective sites.
Business Development
Provide quotations on request.
Ability to submit tenders.
Ability to write and review contracts.
Update, if necessary, Company Information on Environmental, Health and Safety and Quality services.
