Due to ongoing success, this energy management company is looking to appoint a specialist technician to provide support in SIM card technology, meters and modems development.
The main objective of the role is to research new technologies and methods to enhance remote communications to meters throughout the UK. Develop and implement solutions to provide further efficiencies within the Company following the full development life cycle.
The nature of the role means that every day is different, and you will be responsible for testing new products (SIM cards, modems and SMARTmeters) for suitability, value for money, extra applications etc, and then recommending successful products to the company.
You will also be dealing with UK and overseas suppliers and deciding which will offer the best working relationship with the best product.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Keep up-to-date with new technologies and communication methods
· Implement new solutions following development life cycle
· Troubleshoot communication issues
· Document testing and implementation strategies
· Provide user support and training for communication processes
· Analyse and report on performance of communication methods
· Ensure appropriate security is in place within communication methods
· Any other related duties as required by the R&D Manager
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
· Experience with 2G and 3G telecom networks (elements, protocols, services, configuration)
· Working knowledge of gsm and gprs standards
· Experience working with protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, Modbus and Nimbus
· Demonstrate a systematic and logical problem solving technique, in order to formulate and deliver to business SLA's and recovery action plans
· Excellent communication skills, dealing with internal colleagues and external suppliers
· Have a 'can do' approach with the skills to deliver
· Be able to quickly develop an understanding of business requirements and functional specifications
· Be resilient and able to work effectively under pressure
This position might suit somebody who has been working in a support desk environment for telecommunications, and now looking for something more challenging. It might also suit somebody who has recently graduated, as long as you can demonstrate the required abilities; or a more experienced technical R&D specialist who has a strong background in the communications, energy or utilities sectors. Salary is entirely dependant on your experience and ability to succeed in this fast paced and varied role.
Benefits include a contributory pension scheme, company life assurance, and 20 – 25 days holiday (in addition to bank holidays) per annum. Standard hours of work are 37.5 per week, 8.30am – 5.00pm Monday to Friday. Office facilities include free onsite parking and free refreshments for all staff.
